Local girl Stella Guilding from Elmore, Gloucester, has landed an amazing job wingwalking across Europe with the World’s only formation wingwalking team, Team Guinot. The daring 21-year-old beat hundreds of applicants to the high flying position and can’t believe she’ll be spending this summer looping the skies strapped to the top wing of a Guinot’s 1940’s biplane!

Stella was born, and grew up, in Gloucestershire where she was educated at Stroud High school before going on to complete a degree in Exercise and Health Science at the University of Gloucestershire.

With a love for aviation, Aerial skills and trapeze Stella dreamed of taking to the wing to combine all of her skills.

“After seeing the glamorous wingwalking display at a number of shows I just couldn’t resist applying for a job as a wingwalker when I saw it advertised”, says Stella, “ I am prepared for whatever the weather throws at me this summer because working for Team Guinot is a dream come true, looping through the sky at 150mph is unbelievable!”

Stella has been training to climb in and out of the cockpit of the Guinot Boeing Stearman biplanes mid flight and is currently undergoing intensive training under the careful guidance of her mentor, and fellow local wingwalker, Danielle Hughes from Malmesbury. Currently learning to wave, perform handstands and aerobatic skills as the aircraft completes a breath-taking sequence of aerobatic maneuvers, Stella made her first public appearance on May 14th at Kemble press day watching her mentor flying through the skies.

“It is extremely difficult finding the right candidates for wingwalking, but Stella is doing fantastically” says mentor Danielle, “waving from the top wing of a biplane against 150 mph wind pressure is not for the faint hearted! A wingwalker needs a head for heights, a taste for adrenalin and the grace to smile without showing the flies in her teeth!”
