At midday on 5th August the world’s only formation wingwalking team, Team Guinot, married a daring couple 1000 feet in the air above their base airfield in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

The highflying groom, Darren McWalters (24), stood on the top wing of a Guinot biplane while his daring bride, Katie Hodgson (23) (both from Lancashire), flew along side on the wing of an identical aircraft; full bridal gown flowing behind!

The vicar flew ahead of the couple on the wings of a third aircraft and the lovebirds conducted their vows of their wedding blessing over an airbourne communications system which played through loud speakers to the congregation waiting on the ground at the Gloucestershire airfield.

Fitness Instructor Darren says of his marriage made in heaven;

“We got engaged in the Brazilian rain forest and I wanted a wedding blessing topped my proposal!”

Team Guinot are delighted to have fulfilled the couples’ dream by launching their marriage to such a highflying start;

“I am honoured to have flown the bride Katie” says Team Leader Vic Norman,

“She looked amazing on the wing in her full bridal gown but we had to land again before they could exchange the rings!”

The high flying wedding was played live on Sky News throughout the day, whilst also appearing across ITV and on National ITN.

Fantastic pictures of the daring lovebirds appeared in The Times, The Guardian, The Sun, Daily Mirror, Daily Star and the Daily Express whilst also appearing on the front page of the Metro!

The couple gained international congratulations when they were interviewed live on NBC America via a live satellite link the following morning.
